How to Use

Acquarella is a new paradigm in nail care products and nail preparation is the key to your success. Only a few simple changes will have to be made to optimize your experience if you are used to and have been using conventional nail polish. Let’s simplify your conventional experience with the few simple changes found below.

For best results with the Acquarella system, we recommend using Acquarella Conditioner to prepare the nails. This preparation cycle accelerates the process of adding moisture to your nail and removes many oils and emollients that interfere with the adherence of Acquarella Nail Polish.  This is a 3-4 day preparation process of removing and reapplying the conditioner.

Application is as simple as applying two thin coats of nail polish.  We also recommend buffing the nail before applying the nail polish.  There is no need for coats under or on top of the polish.

FAQ's

Q. Why is nail conditioning necessary?

A. The conditioning period directly returns moisture to dry, chemically-abused nails.  The conditioning period helps to remove many oils and emollients found on the nail bed that interfere with the adherence of Acquarella Nail Polish.

Q. When is a conditioning period necessary?

A. If you currently wear nail polish or use oil-based products with your nails and cuticles, a conditioning period is required.  Aquarella Nail Polish will adhere for longer periods of time as they remove oils and emollients, becoming more hydrated.

Q. How long is the conditioning period?

A. If you have worn traditional nail polishes before using ours, you will simply need to change the Acquarella Conditioner every day for 4 to 5 days before your nails are reconditioned and moisturized sufficiently to hold the polish on the nails for extended periods of time.

Q. Does Acquarella Nail Polish require a base coat and a top coat?

A. No.  There is no need for a base coat or a top coat.  In fact, all you need is two thin coats of Acquarella nail polish.

Q. Why is buffing the nail recommended?

A.  We highly recommend buffing the nails before applying Acquarella Nail Polish to remove ridges and contaminates that might affect the final surface and adherence.

Q. When is the best time to apply Acquarella Nail Polish?

A. We recommend applying Acquarella Nail Polish or Conditioner after bathing or retiring for the evening.  This allows an uninterrupted time for the nail polish to "cure" completely.

Q. How much time should a person wait between cleaning and application?

A. As soon as the nail is clean and dry to the touch, Acquarella Nail Polish may be applied.

Q. How many coats should I apply?

A. Two thin coats is all that's needed.

Q. Does temperature/humidity of the nails/environment make a difference in application or drying time?

A. Yes, it is a water-based product.  Acquarella's drying time varies depending on the temperature/humidity in the environment.  Acquarella depends on the evaporation of water molecules for drying.

Q. I'm having a manicure or pedicare.  When can I apply the Acquarella Moisturizer?

A. Acquarella Moisturizer may be applied before or after a manicure or pedicure.  Because it is non-oily, it will not interfere with the Acquarella Nail Polish or Conditioner.  Ask your nail care professional to use it during your service.  Acquarella Moisturizer may be applied after baths or showers - apply on the hands and other dry skin areas.

Q. Can conventional nail polish remover remove Acquarella Nail Polish?

A. We highly recommend only using Acquarella Nail Polish Remover.  All other removers have solvents, oils and other emollients that are incompatible with our products and will hinder adherence of our polish.  Remember, oil and water don't mix.

Q. Does casual use of products containing known nail polish remover degrade Acquarella Nail Polish?

A. As with conventional nail polish, the use of products on the hands or feet known to adversely affect the polish will cause degradation over extended periods of time.  However, casual use should not ruin a manicure or pedicure.

Q. Is there any residue that inhibits the reapplication process?

A. Yes, conventional lotions, removers and buffing debris will hinder nail adhesion.  As soon as the nail has been cleansed of the original polish using Acquarella Nail Polish Remover, you can immediately apply a new color following the application instructions

Q. Can you take a shower, bath or go swimming?

A. Yes to all three.  However, you should wait at least six hours to give it a chance to completely "cure".

Q. After a long bath, my nails have lost some shine.  Why?

A. After extended periods of exposure to water, the shine will be temporarily dulled but will regain its luster after "drying out."  You may notice the nails "sweating" a bit after extended exposure to water.  This is just the nail polish and nail's way of breathing.

Q. Should I be avoiding anything with my painted nails?

A. Some toners, "moisturizing" soaps, solvents, and lotions have oils and emollients that interfere with Acquarella adhering properly.  Remember, oil and water don't mix.

Q. Can a section/chip be repainted with the same polish on the nail?

A. Absolutely!  Since the application process of Acquarella is so simple, you may find it easier to remove the existing polish and reapply two thin coats.

Q. What is the reasonable length of time to have nail polish last?

A. After your nails are conditioned to wear Acquarella Nail Polish, it will last as long as conventional nail polish lasts on you.  Some people are harder on nails than others.

Q. What should happen to the polish naturally over time?

A. It will reflect wear the same as conventional nail polishes.

Q. What should be used to clean my nails?

A. We suggest washing hands with a mild liquid soap.

Q. Are there any environmental issues regarding the wear (i.e. is it sensitive to sunlight, reactions to combinations of common products like salt, soap, etc.)

A. This water-based product is very strong and will wear well even through adverse conditions.  However, because it is water-based, it is hydrophilic (water loving), longer exposure to oils, solvents and soaps may cause signs of wear.  Once Acquarella has completely "cured" after about six hours, very little affects it.

Q. How long will each bottle last?

A. This depends upon how often you paint your nails.  Application and use is different with everyone.  However, a bottle of Acquarella Nail Polish lasts longer than conventional nail polish because you can use the entire bottle.

Q. Is Acquarella designed for people who change their nail polish regularly?

A. Yes, Acquarella Nail Polish is especially safe for children and adults who have fun with nail polish and would like to make a change every hour, day or week.  You can do this without concern for how often you are doing it as you are no longer exposing yourself to harmful chemicals and solvents.

Q. What is the shelf life of Acquarella Nail Polish and Conditioner?

A. Acquarella Nail Polish and Conditioner are designed to last over 2 years.

Acquarella Tips

The following are some general tips and hints for getting the most out of Acquarella nail care
products:
• Acquarella Nail Polish will wash off up to one minute from application, with standard tap water, if you decide on another color or wish to repaint a nail.
• Best time to apply Acquarella Nail Polish or Conditioner is right before retiring in the evening. This allows the Acquarella Nail Polish ample time to “cure” while you sleep (6+ hours).
• The shine and color will last as long as the polish.
• We recommend that you do not use soaps and shampoos that you fi nd are hard on the polish over time. You may also give the polish more time to “cure” before coming in contact.
• Do not use lotions or oils before applying nail polish. To moisturize hands before using Acquarella Nail Polish, use Acquarella Moisturizer.
• Remove polish only with Acquarella Remover with Acquarella Remover to avoid hindering Acquarella’s binding
properties.
• If you happen to spill Acquarella Nail Polish or Conditioner, cleanup is best achieved by blotting the surface with a paper towel dampened with Acquarella Remover. For fabrics and carpet, wetting the affected surface with water within a minute of contact should help removal with the blotting technique.
• If your nail polish starts to thicken over a long period of time, simply add a drop or two of distilled water and shake bottle.

Remover
Why Acquarella Remover and not conventional?  Because, oil and water don't mix.  Conventional removers use oil and emollients to compensate for the extreme drying of Acetone and other harsh solvents.  Those same oils and emollients hinder our nail polish's binding properties.

Acquarella's remover is water based and gently removes Acquarella Nail Polish and Conditioner.  Our new biodegradable, plant-derived formula takes it one step further by removing stubborn residue.  Aquarella Nail Polish Remover will leave your nails squeaky clean and ready for application.  Plus, it won't harm you or the environment.

  • Faster removal time for Acquarella Nail Polish & Conditioner
  • Non-toxic, non-flammable - Contains no petrochemical solvents
  • Creates better polish-adhesion to the nail surface
  • Pleasant, light odor - no fragrance added
  • No drying or cracking of nails or cuticles from use
Moisturizer
Our scientists had a clear directive:  create the very best moisturizer that is compatible with our Acquarella Water Colors.  After extensive research, we are proud to present the result:  Acquarella Moisturizer.

The skin contains natural moisturizers, the most important being Sodium PCA (the sodium salt of pyrrolidaone carboxylic acid).  The ability of skin to hold moisture is directly related to its Sodium PCA content.  Since we are 55%-65% water, and not oil, it is water that keeps skin soft and supple.  This little known amino acid (Sodium PCA) moisturizes the skin, improving its appearance, and giving it a moist, youthful glow.

  • Non-oily
  • Unscented
  • Contains Sodium PCA
  • Contains Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Vitamin C
